Pre-activities: The students will watch two short YouTube videos on the associative and commutative properties of addition that will take a total of 8 minutes. Technology resources: The technology resources used in my lesson will be: If the school doesn’t provide classroom laptops we will have class in the computer lab. The students will need pencil and paper and a set of classroom computers. Materials needed: As the teacher I will use a smartboard. If the students need more time or do not finish the assessment part of the lesson, this will be done during the first 10-15 minutes of class the next day. This standard requires students to apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract.Ĭlassroom time required: This lesson will be designed for an average 50 minute class. It addresses the Common Core Standard .1.OA.B.3. They should also be able to understand how addition and subtraction are connected.Ĭurriculum alignment: This lesson relates to the Standard Course Study: Mathematics. Learning outcomes: After this lesson I hope the students will be able to take an addition problem and convert it into a different, but equivalent problem by using their associative and commutative properties.
These technology tools will aid me in teaching the students what they need to know to understand and effectively use their properties and correlate addition and subtraction.
This lesson will include informative YouTube videos, class discussions with Microsoft PowerPoint, Powtoon, online educational games, and Padlet.
